Hot new band
March 23, 2008
New Jersey has a long history of producing some of the best bands in the world. Unfortunately recent trends would tell us that we are a “Cover Band” state. Although I love the cover bands in NJ it’s good to see some creativity in the local scene.
Last night I decided to see a friend of mine, Elaine from New Power Soul and Sugarbelly, in her original gig, Inferonic at the Junkyard in Rochelle Park. It seems that they’re doing a monthly Saturday night show called Noise in the Attic. All original music to bring some life back in to the scene. Inferonic, as always, was excellent. Really melodic styles with Elaine’s POWERFUL voice.
After they came off stage and we all were having a drink together. The next band came on stage. Eden Star I never heard of them and am used to seeing some run of the mill horrible garage band at original shows. The first thing I noticed was their style. They looked good up there very rock/punky vibe to their clothes and a genuine comfort with being on stage. I mentioned to some of the people I was with that these guys, and gal, had a real good “look” too them. Obviously I still was expecting them to suck. Music that maybe a them and a couple of friends would like.
So they started playing a bit while I was catching up with Elaine and friends. After awhile I noticed that I was really enjoying the music. Some of it was very punky, and some was more rock and roll. Looking around it was noticeable that the older crowd that was there for Inferonic and the previous bands were enjoying what they were hearing too. So these young musicians from Edision, NJ were wining over the entire bar with ages that range from 21 to 55. As I turned back around to look at the band, I see the lead signer jump on top of the kick drum as he’s signing, definitely not the first person to do that but something that I couldn’t tell you the last time I saw. At that point I decided to give them my full attention. And these kids had it all, style, stage presence, the music and most importantly, the ability to turn over a crowd.
If you get the chance, I definately recommend hitting up their website and checking out their next show. Edenstarmusic.com Maybe you’ll wanna check out their myspace page because their website SUCKS, then again so does mine. Myspace.com/Edenstar
Everyone knows how much I love Inferonic and any other project that Elaine does so if you want to find out about anything SHE’S up to or anymore about Noise in the Attic hit up her myspace at Myspace.com/tangtastesgood
